The Deweys - Windwalker

Originaire du Sud-Ouest de la France, The Deweys est un trio à géométrie variable, qui fonctionne au gré des rencontres et des invitations. Influencé par les musiques américaines, folk, blues et country, le groupe s’est construit une identité et gravé le nom de ses héros, de Johnny Cash à Nick Cave, de Calexico à R.L. Burnside. Avec Windwalker, The Deweys ont creusé le côté cinématographique de leur univers en invitant un quatuor à cordes et un percussionniste réunis au sein d’un orchestre éphémère, The Black Cat Orchestra, tout dévoué aux chansons de l’album. En résulte une ambiance toute particulière, avec une ouverture en forme d’hommage à Ennio Morricone (El Caminito Del Rey) et une conclusion qu’on croirait tirée d’une comédie musicale (le duo The Gaslamp Memories). Entre les deux, on trouvera une folk minimaliste, un blues psychédélique et floydien, ou une ballade à fendre le cœur... S’il fallait une bande-son pour un voyage, intérieur ou non, Windwalker serait le bon compagnon.

Hailing from Southwest France, The Deweys is a trio with variable geometry, operating based on encounters and invitations. Influenced by American music—folk, blues, and country—the group has forged its own identity and etched the names of its heroes, from Johnny Cash to Nick Cave, from Calexico to R.L. Burnside. With Windwalker, The Deweys have delved deeper into the cinematic side of their universe by inviting a string quartet and a percussionist, united in a fleeting orchestra called The Black Cat Orchestra, entirely devoted to the album’s songs. The result is a uniquely atmospheric experience, opening with a tribute to Ennio Morricone (El Caminito Del Rey) and closing with a track that could have come straight from a musical (The Gaslamp Memories duo). In between, you’ll find minimalist folk, psychedelic and Floydian blues, or a heart-wrenching ballad...
